Sometimes when love something so much, you will defend it no matter what.
This arguing in the forums, I see it a little like this.
We all love LFS, otherwise I think we all wouldn't be following this thread like looneys.

I hope the weather is nice where your at Scawen, I am bloody melting here

Same goes for rest of the LFS team , Eric, Victor & Geraldine , and the testers, hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Quote from Tur8o :just wondering if this is also possible.. when you get a penalty its in the middle of the screen (where splits are) just wondering if it could be moved into a box on the right under the mini map saying 30/45/DT/SG or something

many thanks

Good Idea, it can be very off putting sometimes and makes the driving difficult. Rather then just moving it, putting an option for where its displayed could be helpful, I would also like the same for the split indicators.

For me I wondered why there isnt two seperate chat lines/ one for chat
one for output of LFS.

But I feel a little guilty to suggest things when batman already has a plan.

** to the people who insist on polluting this thread with nonsense**

I know I am not a mod or anyone with authority, But I hope i speak enough sense to make my feelings clear.
It seems any thread Scawen makes on progression, it gets spammed with gibberish off topic and often pointless and sometimes behaviour, that puts people off even visiting here.
It is because this is a much read thread, it is like a magnet for attention seekers.
It wastes the developers time, the mods time, other members and my own, to keep reading through it, not to mention the effect of all this/ on those just wanting to keep tabs.

Please Keep it on topic or make a new "off topic" thread or keep it to PM's
for everyone's sake and your own.
Respect the thread ! If your not going discuss the incoming patch here, or have any questions regarding it, or how it affects LFS then please don't post. lets try keep this thread tidy.

The mods shouldn't even have to get involved to keep it clean (esp the devs) if the above simple respectful rules are applied. It is common sense and respect, that is needed.

On the brighter side, great news this patch. Looking forward to testing it extensively in South City, maybe Fern Bay & Aston and more then likely Blackwood. And if the kettle is still hot, and coffee is good then probably Westhill, but Kyoto.... Well... I have a question regarding tyre physics.

@Devs
It maybe a completely psychological thing (which i do think it is), but is there any difference in the track tarmac surfaces at different venues?
Is the tarmac surface significantly different at Kyoto to say that at south city? (Kyoto just feels so different to me)
One thing that has confused me in the development of the tyre physics is how the surface is modelled. Can you shed any light on this?
Does the lighting/time of day alter any ambient track temps? (is this something your looking at introducing in a later version or maybe adjusting track temp?)

Hopefully you get time to get through to answering, if not no worries.
Keep it going

Thanks to Google today Charlie Chaplin has been put into peoples minds, So I thought I would contribute with maybe, what is for myself his most memorable moment on the silver screen.

The Great Dictators Speech.

Below are the words of wisdom, from that short clip.

"I'm sorry, but I don't want to be an emperor. That's not my business. I don't want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone if possible - Jew, Gentile - black man - white.

We all want to help one another. Human beings are like that. We want to live by each other's happiness - not by each other's misery. We don't want to hate and despise one another. In this world there's room for everyone and the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone.

The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way. Greed has poisoned men's souls - has barricaded the world with hate - has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed. We have developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in. Machinery that gives abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge has made us cynical; our cleverness, hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery we need humanity. More than cleverness, we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost.

The aeroplane and the radio have brought us closer together. The very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in man - cries for universal brotherhood - for the unity of us all. Even now my voice is reaching millions throughout the world - millions of despairing men, women, and little children - victims of a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent people. To those who can hear me, I say: 'Do not despair.' The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed - the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress. The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people. And so long as men die, liberty will never perish.

Soldiers! Don't give yourselves to brutes - men who despise you and enslave you - who regiment your lives - tell you what to do - what to think and what to feel! Who drill you - diet you - treat you like cattle, use you as cannon fodder. Don't give yourselves to these unnatural men - machine men with machine minds and machine hearts! You are not machines! You are not cattle! You are men! You have the love of humanity in your hearts. You don't hate, only the unloved hate - the unloved and the unnatural!

Soldiers! Don't fight for slavery! Fight for liberty! In the seventeenth chapter of St Luke, it is written the kingdom of God is within man not one man nor a group of men, but in all men! In you! You, the people, have the power - the power to create machines. The power to create happiness! You, the people, have the power to make this life free and beautiful - to make this life a wonderful adventure. Then in the name of democracy - let us use that power - let us all unite. Let us fight for a new world - a decent world that will give men a chance to work - that will give youth a future and old age a security.

By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power. But they lie! They do not fulfil that promise. They never will! Dictators free themselves but they enslave the people. Now let us fight to fulfil that promise! Let us fight to free the world - to do away with national barriers - to do away with greed, with hate and intolerance. Let us fight for a world of reason - a world where science and progress will lead to all men's happiness. Soldiers, in the name of democracy, let us unite!"

Quote from GreyBull [CHA] :...

And your point is? That you don't think its a big deal idiots go on-line and abuse the data collected by trackers? Then go and post in here the official forums and try and get more polluted data into the charts.
Maybe you should do the same, why not everyone. Great for !Icewolves im sure
Yes its a great resource but defending this idiot... really?
Sorry to seem like I am singling you out here GreyBull but you go further in your reply.
So the way back at Lionhead Studios, when LFS became more then just a some piece of code, Scawen made this in his "things to do list" Really? since day one of development? Sorry to spoil your day, but I really think you need to think a little before replying. And really should research how the first laps were recorded back then.
And Finally if pb's meant nothing, then why the hell does this chart, the one you so finely pointed out by yourself exist. Anywayyyy......
@ faze-one : IF you really want to compete in charts then hot-lap.
If you want to achieve outrageous pb's then fine, just delete them once you had your fun.

This kind of thing makes those tracker charts useless, and it seems there are quite a few now.
Even with cheat detection enabled many are very dubious.

You have tried south city pikd with Full grid? The start of the race can be most severe most of the cars in close proximity. I see dips below 100FPS with a quad above 3.6ghz at so4r with a large grid.
Your also forgeting the E6600 has just 4mb L2 cache & Vsync also induces controller lag I would NEVER use vsync in any type of game where fast reflex/repsone is needed.
My guess troy would be perhaps if running windows vista or 7 is to check power management, and gpu settings ie forced AA etc? (gpuz is gpu clock running correct when lfs is running) this is of course if its running worse then usual.

LFS needs to spread its load on the systems that are now commonplace.
At the moment its more cache dependant and mhz sensitive then it is to core count, but more cores do help (background proccess etc) Eza did a fantastic analysis of this http://www.lfsforum.net/showth ... t=51635&highlight=cpu

Quote from BlueFlame :The best thing to do, is forget about saving people, it's about time that the global population suffered numbers loss, believe me, it hurts to watch the footage of people crying and their property and family being destroyed by the tsunami and washed away never to be seen again but there's a bigger picture.

I agree that there a population issue, but your post is quite disgusting, without real thought of consequence and really highlights how little people care about what they say. I am pretty sure rest of the forum will agree.

If it was murders rapists and other scum that prey on human weakness then I would not be as concerned but people deserve another chance for doing wrong or should i say help if changing their ways.
But families, children, teachers, whole communities, these are ok to lose in such tragic circumstances?. I guess its ok for genocide and mass extermination of other speices of life also, reading into the reasons why you would even contemplate such a foolish statement.
Blueflame really you need to re-evaluate your perspective a get a goddamn grip.

One day when people see the bigger picture and realize the only obstacles in life are man made, this world might be a place worth living in. The Older I get the more fickle it seems the moral fibre of humanity becomes, you know that stuff that apparently makes us a superior race, intellectually and emotionally.

If cost was no issue, I think the world just help sort it out, shut up shop and help each other as much as we humanly could.

My heart goes out to those affected.

@Blueflame if you really believe in what you say I suggest in future you attempt to at least explain why you do, as the bigger picture is something you are obviously obliviously unaware of.
Like these words, you may read them, but do you actually really understand them. or just like to react with the first thoughts that arrive.
Take it in process and relate to with compassion, empathy and consideration from all angles.

Peace

Heh EQ im not suggesting a static server that never rotates, just much less rotation. The devs already have a few static race servers that are mostly unused (afiak).
Gener_AL (UK)
S3 licensed
Sorry racing maybe fun, but rotation is not, rotate it daily or weekly but not every hour or so, or maybe ..... (idea mentioned later)

Rotation - This makes me leave a server, and is VERY, VERY annoying to join to race a combo and it ends. As mentioned many times already, building a set or learning the track is somrthing that is very difficult in just accomplish in a few short races.
You might think people get bored, but thats the format imo, race restart race restart. This is a major point to consider.
More focus on this I think.

There are many many multiclass servers that rotate the track all day long, I want some kind of Server doesnt, rotate constantly. If I wanted to race random configs i can close my eyes in LFS game browser and click away.
Have Info on future configs accessible on the server or a webpage, make it very easy to find.
You seem to pull this figure of 75% out of nowhere EQ that people get bored in one hour, in that hour i can maybe manage 2 short races have a brew and a smoke. This does not include time for a good qualification or warmup.
I Know not everyone wants to do this, but I would consider maybe keeping the rotation periods as they are but maybe just switch between two tracks for the day, one for the night or every hour or 2. At least those that like me were annoyed that combo missed has gone, that there will be alot more opportunities to race it later.
That would work for me, but too many combos is much worse then doing the same one all evening, i don`t learn, i don`t get fully immersed into my racing enviroment

http://en.lfsmanual.net/wiki/H ... rwarding_.2F_Home_Routers

basically you need to find Ip of router.cable modem usually 192.1681.100 or sometimes 192.168.100.1 / (sometimes its stuck on the device)

Then type that address into your browser this will take you to login page usually username/pw is root/root (even tells you on the login page)
then from there you should have the options to ammend NAT rules firewall etc. If you have a cable modem, check antivirus and firewall software as you will have a WAN IP address assigned to your NIC not a translated one via NAT.

IE your IP assigned router will be on the local range unless other specified ie in DMZ.
192.168 (local range)
if on cable modem
86.125. (external range)

easy way to find this is open a MSDOS prompt (start menu > accessories > command prompt.

type IPCONFIG /ALL

Anyways that should help you work out whats happening / maybe try this thread or this

Forward / open the incoming ports (TCP/63392,UDP/63392), and make sure the outgoing port (TCP/29339) is also open.
*edit*
Also check the options in the browser menu in game (is it set to race cruise real hard etc, have you changed TCP empty private?)
